Moroccan Chamomile

There seems to be more discussion and dispute over the usage, effects and characteristics of this type of chamomile. It is quite often used in the cologne industry to produce top note aromas, while it is claimed to also help with topical skin conditions and other internal problems.

Discussed below are health uses with either Roman or German chamomile unless specifically stated otherwise.

As an Anti-Agent

Chamomile has great antiseptic, antibiotic and disinfectant properties. It can kill bacteria and fungi on contact and kill infections that already may be present. Use for household surface cleaning and also as a topical skin ointment to kill bacteria in cuts. It can be used directly or blended with a carrier oil such as coconut oil for dilution. Chamomile is also a vermifuge which can kill intestinal worms, either topically rubbed into the abdominal area or taken internally in tea or capsule form. By using Chamomile as a shampoo it can also kill lice and mites in the hair and keep the scalp free from infection. Always test an essential oil before topical applications in the inner elbow area for adverse reactions.

Aromatherapy

Chamomile oils have long been used as aromatherapy to combat stress, anxiety and other depression mood disorders. The oil acts as a stimulant in raising spirits and raising one's mood. Apply a couple drops to bathwater, as a perfume or cologne to the neck area or in a diffuser near where you are working to ensure a constant boost to your emotions. Helps fight depression, hyperactivity, irritability, anxiety and general stress when used this way.

Anti-Inflammatory

German Chamomile is especially effective in fighting inflammation of the joints and muscles in adults. It can reduce swollen blood vessels and reduce blood pressure as well. Apply directly to the affected areas topically.

Other great uses for Chamomile include to enhance the digestive and circulatory systems, as a nerve relaxant, some analgesic properties for muscle and joint pain, aiding the release of gas from the intestinal system and preventing its build-up, and can help remove and reduce scar tissue as a wound heals. Chamomile has many great uses, keeping it on hand as one of your core essential oils is necessary.
