What to Expect From Your Cryolipolysis Treatment

If you are planning to undergo cryolipolysis treatment, also known as coolsculpting, the biggest thing to remember is that you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Because the procedure is non-invasive, you'll immediately be up and about once it is complete, which usually takes about an hour. In fact, many patients choose to use the time to work on their laptop, read a book, listen to music on their headphones, or simply take a nap. The following is some information on what you will experience both during and after your treatment.

You will either lie down or sit during the procedure. You'll feel some tugging, pulling, and perhaps some pinching as the vacuum pressure of the cryolipolysis device draws tissue into its applicator cap. There will be a cool-down period where you will first feel a cold sensation. The area being treated will slowly become numb, a process that takes about 5-10 minutes. During this time, you may feel some cramping, aching, tingling or stinging, but these sensations usually subside fairly quickly.

Once the cryolipolysis procedure is complete, the treated area may feel somewhat stiff. However, this feeling should go away within about 10 minutes. The area will most likely remain red for about 20 minutes and then you'll probably notice some bruising. In addition, it may be tender to the touch for the first few weeks. These sensations are normal and should pose no cause for concern.

During the ensuing days and weeks, you need to call your doctor if the redness or swelling increases over time or does not subside within two weeks. You should also call if your bruising worsens after two weeks. If any of these symptoms occur, or if you are feeling any sort of increased discomfort, it may be necessary to prescribe an oral medication or a topical anesthetic. This type of problem, however, is extremely rare.

You should notice a measurable reduction in the thickness of the fat layer in the area that was treated in the weeks following your cryolipolysis procedure. Your doctor will want to schedule a follow-up visit with you to take a look at the results. No matter how successful your treatment proves to be, however, you will still need to work to prevent weight gain by continuing to exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet. You may want to consider having additional treatments done to address other troublesome areas.

If you have any questions whatsoever concerning what you can expect before, during, or after your treatment, get in touch with your doctor. He or she will be able to provide you with detailed information regarding your upcoming procedure so that you will be as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
