Drinking alkaline water is said to be incredibly good for you. One frequently reads about all the potential health benefits, but whether you believe everything you read about is of course your own decision to make. Since I'm not a doctor or any other sort of healthcare professional, I'm not going to discuss the possible health benefits at all.
One of the biggest problems for many people that decide they would like to drink alkaline water is of course the initial expense of buying a water ionizer. These are the units which filter your tap water, and during the process they increase the water's alkalinity. Unlike many regular water filters, some of which can be bought for around $100, most alkaline water brands tend to be a bit costly. Generally speaking, top of the range alkaline water brands can cost as much as $6,000.
Even more modest units will set you back a few hundred dollars, and obviously not everyone has this amount of money to spare. Fortunately for those who don't have the money, there are a few tricks you can use in order to make your own alkaline water at home. The quality of your water might not be as good as the water produced by a proper ionizer, but it's certainly better than nothing. It's also incredibly easy, and you might even already have everything that is needed.
Tip 1 - Reach For Those Lemons
Adding some lemon juice to your drinking water is without doubt the best way to improvise. Now, you'd be forgiven if you thought lemon juice will surely increase acidity since everyone knows lemons are acidic. The secret here lies in the fact that lemons are also anionic, and once you drink the water it will change to become alkaline as it reacts with your body. Keep in mind that you need to use the juice of freshly squeezed lemons.
Tip 2 - Get Out Your Tin Of Baking Soda
Adding half a teaspoon of baking soda to a gallon of drinking water will give you quick and easy alkaline water, although many people prefer to use lemon juice since it has other health benefits of its own. If you do use baking soda you will need to shake the bottle vigorously in order to make sure it's completely dissolved before you begin drinking the water.
Tip 3 - Purchase Some pH Drops
These can be found in many health stores, and good quality drops will quite often also contain a number of trace minerals and etc. They are also very convenient because you can easily carry them around with you. The only drawback is that they do cost a bit, and you could find yourself paying around $50 or more per bottle.
The Glaringly Obvious
The biggest downside to all of the above methods is the fact that none of them are capable of purifying your water. You either need to use bottled water, or water from your tap if it's safe to drink. Some people like to buy a water distiller which is excellent for purifying water, but if you're going to start spending money on things like that, then you'd be far wiser to invest in a proper water ionizer.
